Author and filmmaker Tsitsi Dangarembga (Zimbabwe) and Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor (Kenya) discuss the role of imagination in their literary work. Moderated by LIAS Alumna Grace A Musila and LIAS Faculty Fellow Vera-Simone Schulz, in this talk the authors will reflect on as their respective experiences as celebrated writers whose work grapples with urgent questions about histories, past and present; and what futures we can build together, if we dare imagine differently.
The writing of Tsitsi Dangarembga and Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor — often described as lyrical, evocative, haunting — grapples ordinary people’s encounters with historical contexts that pose difficult questions about what it means to be human in impossible times. Tsitsi Dangarembga and Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor will also talk at the LIAS Workshop “Worldmaking Experiments with Art and Literature”, at Leuphana University which is open to the public.
