Scientific Publishing and Communication in Law (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Jelena Bäumler, Louis Kotzé

Inhalt: This course is aimed at scholars in legal science (and related fields of study) at an early stage of their careers; mostly doctoral candidates. The objective of the course is to provide participants with necessary skills to help establish yourselves in the legal academic world. We aim to provide you with knowledge and skills on how to apply for and participate in academic conferences, how to write scientific publications and publish them in academic journals and books, and more popular dissemination platforms, as well as to network with other academics and partners from practice, government and industry. In this way, the course will help you to develop your academic leadership skills, your research and ideas in a competitive academic environment. We also aim to go beyond this, however, by offering you the toolkit for connecting yourselves with a range of partners necessary to support your career development and research (such as experts from NGOs) and to share skills necessary to develop networks for building an international profile and continuing your career with significant social and scientific impact.

Sustainability Governance/International Sustainability Law (Seminar)

Inhalt: This course focuses on the international regulatory approaches and intersections among the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, environmental and social law. Having developed in different contexts and by different institutions, Human Rights Law, International Environmental Law and International Economic Law each have unique structures, narratives and enforcement mechanisms. In line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which envisage an integrative framework for sustainable development, the course will also explore mechanisms and tools for the systemic integration of the three pillars, gender equality and recent developments in treaty lawmaking as an essential basis for a sustainable world.

Leuphana Law Lab für Nachhaltigkeitstransformation (Seminar)

Inhalt: Wie müsste Recht sein, um Transformationsprozesse in Richtung der Nachhaltigkeit zu gestalten? Welche Überlegungen müssen angestellt, welche Akteure einbezogen und welche Prozesse durchlaufen werden, damit Recht nicht nur verschriftlicht, sondern gelebt und gesetzgeberische Ziele erreicht werden können? Im Leuphana Law Lab betrachten wir das Recht nicht als statisches Gebilde, sondern als dynamisches Instrument, das kreativ weiterentwickelt werden muss. Im Zentrum steht das transformative Potential des Rechts als gesellschaftliches Hebelinstrument bei den großen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit, wie dem Klimawandel, globale Ungleichheit, soziale und kulturelle Spannungen oder der Flächenversieglung. Dabei stellen wir uns die entscheidende Frage: Wie kann die Gestaltung von Recht dazu beitragen, mehr Gerechtigkeit und Frieden auf der Welt zu schaffen? Gemeinsam erforschen die Grenzen des bestehenden Rechts und die möglichen Gestaltungsräume, um es adressatengerecht und anwendungsorientiert zu machen. Unser Ansatz ist es, das transformative Potenzial des Rechts zu nutzen, um nachhaltige Lösungen für Herausforderungen wie Klimawandel, soziale Ungleichheit und kulturelle Spannungen zu entwickeln. Wir kombinieren Design Methoden und Design Thinking mit Fragen der Partizipation, Rulemapping und Systemtheorien, um ein umfassendes Verständnis der Rechtsgestaltung zu erlangen. Im experimentellen Raum des Leuphana Law Labs haben wir die Möglichkeit, innovative Ansätze zu erproben und zu testen, wie das Recht kreativ weiterentwickelt werden kann, um effektive und gerechte Ergebnisse zu erzielen.
