Utopia Conference: Further prominent guests have confirmed their attendance

2022-08-24 Lüneburg. The third Utopia Conference of the Leuphana University Lüneburg deals with the future of freedom and democracy. The organisers invite us to keep the big picture of an open and grandchild-friendly society in mind in times of uncertainty. The conference will be hosted by transformation researcher Maja Göpel and philosopher Richard David Precht. With the publicist Michel Friedman and the IT security expert Lilith Wittmann, two further prominent guests have now confirmed their participation. Citizens and students from all over Germany are welcome to come to the Leuphana campus from 30 August to 2 September to explore ideas for the freedom of tomorrow. Registrations are still possible at www.leuphana.de/utopie

The conference is about energy democracy and the school as an inn of learning, about basic income, the future of food and new forms of democracy that fit the 21st century. Nadja Yang, President of the Young European Engineers, the international climate activist Payal Parekh, Hamburg's Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda and the Federal Chairperson of the Young Liberals Franziska Brandmann are among those who will be contributing ideas.

Whether the global trade of the next decade is compatible with authoritarian market societies will be discussed by Leuphana President Sascha Spoun on the first evening of the conference. His guests are the parliamentary state secretary Franziska Brantner from the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, the economist and China expert Isabella Weber and the writer and civil rights activist Bijan Moini.

The highlights of the conference include the "Long Night of Utopian Practice" on 31 August. Conference director Sven Prien-Ribcke: "On the festival campus, participants will meet people who have already set out to change society. In tents, tiny houses and around the campfire, they will tell how they brought their utopian idea into reality - and why they are still at it." Guests here include Iyabo Kaczmarek, founder of the cultural centre "Under One Roof", philosopher Daniela Mahr, who wants to give change a platform with Reflecta.Network, and Jacob Sylvester Bilabel, who uses the power of culture, fun and strange ideas to build a bridge from knowledge to action.
