2026-05-29

Prof. Dr. Christian Pfeifer (Institute of Economics, Leuphana University Lüneburg) has published jointly with Prof. Dr. Tim Friehe (Universität Marburg) a paper about „Loneliness, Poor Health, and the Moderating Role of Friends: Evidence from Germany“ in Economics Bulletin. Utilizing data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP), the authors find that loneliness is significantly associated with poor health and negatively related to the number of close friends. While these associations are observed across all age groups, a robust moderating role of friends on the health-loneliness link exists only among older adults.
