Inhalt: Managing interorganizational relations (IOR) is important in practice as well as in research and in different contexts, ranging from innovation and entrepreneurship to multi-stakeholder networks. But what exactly are the reasons for linking up with other organizations, which forms of collaboration are common, and can networks of organizations be managed? This course focuses on different forms of predominantly collaborative IOR such as strategic alliances and networks, regional networks and clusters, global supply chains, and project and innovation networks. After introducing different management and social theories for understanding IOR, the course will discuss case studies to better understand the role of relevant management practices such as selection, allocation, regulation and evaluation regarding topics pertinent to managing IOR, such as: • the initiation, maintenance and ending of IORs; • managing tensions such as between cooperation and competition or trust and control; • designing the interface between internal organizational structures and IORs, often conceptualized as boundary spanning; • governing IOR.

Einzeltermin | Fr, 20.06.2025, 08:15 - Fr, 20.06.2025, 15:45 | C 7.307 Seminarraum

Inhalt: Qualitative research is a research strategy that emphasizes large bodies of unstructured data (textual, graphical, audio, and video data) that cannot be meaningfully analyzed by formal, statistical approaches. Despite differences, qualitative research approaches share at least the following two assumptions: (1) by systematically generating and analyzing data new theory can be discovered (inductive view), and (2) this theory stresses the understanding of the socio-economic world through an examination of interpretation of that world by its participants. Since each particular research method is informed by different philosophical traditions, this course will first introduce different perspectives on the socio-economic research process like positivism, interpretativism, realism, and postmodernism. Students will then learn how to set up a qualitative research project using different research design perspective, e.g. a case study approach, an ethnographic study, grounded theory, or a discourse analysis approach. In addition, the course will tackle different qualitative methods of data collection and analysis, including a reflection about practical and ethical considerations. The course is designed for doctoral students and advanced master's students with a strong interest in research. Throughout the course, initiative, creativity, and critical thinking on part of the students will be appreciated and encouraged. The course aims to facilitate students' progress in their thesis project.

Einzeltermin | Di, 22.07.2025, 12:15 - Di, 22.07.2025, 13:45 | C HS 1 | Test

Inhalt: The course covers theories and methods to understand the entrepreneurial process from psychological, organizational, and societal perspectives. Entrepreneurship is a process encompassing opportunity identification, development, and exploitation. The psychological perspective provides insights into individual entrepreneurial success factors. It covers psychological concepts like personal initiative, human capital (prior knowledge and creativity), bricolage, effectuation, action planning, and financial bootstrapping to understand successful action along the entrepreneurial process. The organizational perspective introduces organizational contexts relevant for entrepreneurship such as entrepreneurial ecosystems and networks, as well as various organized spaces and events that foster entrepreneurial activities. An organizational perspective allows discussing the social structures and practices that shape entrepreneurial activities. In addition, it elaborates on the role of intrapreneurship as a driver of change in established organizational settings. The societal perspective introduces different forms of entrepreneurship such as social, institutional or cultural entrepreneurship to shed light on how societal norms and values shape entrepreneurial activities, and how entrepreneurship in turn can address various social challenges. It hereby also sheds light on the political economy and geography of entrepreneurship, which varies across countries and regions.

Advanced Perspectives on M&E: Global Scaling Challenge (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Elke Schüßler

Inhalt: The Global Scaling Challenge is an international student competition about real-life firms that currently face the challenge of scaling globally. Student teams will develop, present, and discuss their suggestion for a scaling strategy with the entrepreneurs and an expert jury. Find more information here: https://gsc.mgt.unm.edu/ Student teams are coached to compete in developing a scaling solution to real-world cases. In doing so, the course revisits key concepts of entrepreneurship such as business models, growth and scaling strategies and discusses their practical application. What’s in it for you? As a student of IBAE you can compete with teams from around the globe and your input can make a real difference for the participating firms. You will be given mentorship and hence can develop your knowledge and skills in addressing real-life entrepreneurial challenges. Additionally, successful student teams can win a share of the price money. Note that this course takes place outside of the regular semester cycle. The regional qualifier event is on March 14, and the main part of the course will take place before this date to coach the students. Thus, students have to be prepared to work intensively during February and March. Usually, there is a short time between the presentation date and the publication of the case materials - this time pressure is part of the challenge. So any student planning longer absences in February and March 2025 should not register for this course! Key Dates February 17, 2025: Student teams have to register with their names February 19, 2025: Case materials will be distributed March 14, 2025: Regional qualifier event Europe/Africa April 4, 2025: Global Scaling Challenge Finals Note that only two teams of 4 students each can participate in the challenge. This means that, depending on group size, there will most likely be an internal pre-selection process. Regardless, all students will benefit by learning from each other as well as the winning teams. If demanded, the preparatory classes can be partially held online.
