Computersicherheit und Kryprografie (Seminar)

Inhalt: Online-Banking, E-Mails und soziale Medien, Internet sind inzwischen ein fester Bestandteil unseres Lebens. Diese Anwendungen vereinfachen vieles, benötigen aber unsere Daten - Passwörter, persönliche Daten, Kreditkarten-Nummern. Die Kommunikations-Hardware entwickelt sich von PCs und Notebooks weiter, Cloud-Computing und Apps auf Smartphones werden tagtäglich eingesetzt. Das Risiko eines unberechtigten Zugriffs auf persönliche Daten und Informationen ist sehr hoch. - Wie kann man sich vor Hackern, Malware, Viren schützen? - Welche Möglichkeiten gibt es, sensible Daten zu speichern und zu übermitteln, ohne dass Unberechtigte darauf zugreifen können? - Was bedeutet "Social Engineering" und wie kann man Social Hacking vermeiden? In dem Serminar werden Inhalte wie z.B. Software-Anomalien, mobiler Code, Internet-Sicherheit, Zugriffskontrolle, Proxy, Firewall, Verschlüsselungsverfahren, Digitale Signaturen, Authentifizierung, Public-Key-infrastrukturen unter dem Gesichtspunkt ihrer Funktionsweise sowie ihrer Auswirkung auf den Alltag behandelt.

Creative Space (Seminar)

Dozent/in: Martin Jan-Ulrich Kohler, Ricardo Usbeck

Inhalt: Creative Spaces, Maker Spaces, FabLabs sind kreative, emanzipatorische Zugänge zum Lernen und Gestalten mit digitalen Technologien. Dabei spielen konkrete Praktiken (Making), kollaboratives Lernen und inkrementelles Arbeiten mit Prototypen wichtige Rollen im gemeinschaftlichen Lern- und Arbeitsprozess. Im Verlauf des Seminars werden sowohl solche Orte in Lüneburg und Hamburg besucht und deren Arbeitsweise und Zielstellung kennen gelernt, wie auch im Creative Space der Leuphana diese selbst angewandt um in Gruppen ein digitales Artefakt zu entwickeln. Das Artefakt kann angesiedelt sein in Bereichen wie Umweltsensorik, der Robotik oder anderen Felder der angewandten Informatik. Technik soll dabei aber nicht affirmativ hingenommen, sondern aktiv und kritisch hinterfragt werden. Dafür ist die Aufgabenstellung und Entwicklung der Abschlußarbeit als Critical Design angelegt. Prüfungsleistung ist die Präsentation eines über den Verlauf des Seminars entwicklelten Prototypen als "object for debate".

FÄLLT AUS: Our Present and Future Nature: An Analysis of the Book "Rambunctious Garden" by Emma Marris (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Emma Marris is one of the world's most innovative and perceptive environmental journalists, writing for foremost journals such as Nature, Wired, OnEarth and Conservation. Her 2011 book "Rambunctious Garden" is at the forefront of current conservation and restoration debate and thought about our present and future nature - to what extent do we need management of nature and what role does pristine nature play in our current Anthropocene? She starts the book this way: "We have lost a lot of nature in the past three hundred years - in both senses of the word lost. We have lost nature in the sense that much nature has been destroyed: where there was a tree, there is house; where there was a creek, there is a pipe and a parking lot [..]. But we have also lost nature in another sense. We have misplaced it. We have hidden it from ourselves. Our mistake has been thinking that nature is something "out there", far away. […] This dream of pristine wilderness haunts us. It blinds us." What kind of nature can we envisage and can we create for ourselves and for other organisms that we share this planet with? Come along and have your eyes opened to very new possibilities that are a hybrid of wilderness and management. We can have more nature than before, it just will not be the same as in the past. Key topics in the ten chapters in the book are: 1) Weeding the Jungle 2) The Yellowstone Model 3) The Forest Primeval 4) Radical Rewilding 5) Assisted Migration 6) Learning to Love Exotic Species 7) Novel Ecosystems 8) Designer Ecosystems 9) Conservation Everywhere 10) A menu of new goals. This course will cover all of these partly controversial topics and embed in current debate and discourse within the scientific and conservation/restoration community. NEW COMPONENT: This year I would like to add some new spice to the course by also reading the book The Invention of Nature by Andrea Wolf, about Alexander von Humboldt and all the people his ideas influenced.

Inhalt: Die digitale Kommunikation hat sich in unserem beruflichen und privaten Leben längst etabliert. Die Folge ist ein starker Anstieg von unterschiedlichen Computeranwendungen und Apps, die zum Einsatz kommen, wodurch das Risiko eines unberechtigten Zugriffs auf persönliche Daten, Informationen, sowie vertrauliche Geschäftsdaten kontinuierlich steigt. Daher stellt sich die Frage: - Wie kann man sich vor Hackern, Malware, Viren schützen? - Welche Möglichkeiten gibt es, sensible Daten zu speichern und zu übermitteln, ohne dass Unberechtigte darauf zugreifen können? - Welche personenbezogene Daten werden verarbeitet und mit welchen Folgen? - Was bedeutet "Social Engineering" und wie kann man Social Hacking vermeiden? - Welche Rechtsvorschriften und Sicherheitsverfahren können bzw. müssen angewandt werden? In dem Seminar werden zunächst einige Konzepte sicherer IT-Systeme und des Datenschutzes besprochen und anschließend die Seminarfragen diskutiert und an Fallbeispielen vertieft.

Mein Körper. Was ist das? – Körper zwischen Medikalisierung und Digitalisierung. (Seminar)

Inhalt: Mit dem "Visual Human Projekt", der digitalen Visualisierung der menschlichen Anatomie, wurde der menschliche Körper in einen Datenkörper aus Bits und Bytes übersetzt: Ein beliebig zerschneidbares und wieder zusammenfügbares virtuelles Bild entstand. Mit dem menschlichen Körper als Information und virtuelles Bild, wurde wiederum das Eingreifen in diesen aus der Ferne denkbar (eine Entkoppelung von hier und jetzt, von Gegenwart, von Körper und Bild), sowie seine Koppelung an die digitalen Technologien (Sensoren, Apps, digital gesteuerte Implantate, Telemedizin, Smartwatches u.a.). – 1984 erschien eine Computer-Werbung, die versprach einen totalen Überwachungsstaat zu zerschlagen, wie er mit "Big Brother" in George Orwells Roman "1984" beschrieben worden war. Heute – genau 40 Jahre später – verspricht uns dieselbe Firma, "mehr von uns zu zeigen". Die Gesundheits-Technologien und Apps, die sie entwickeln, würden uns (so die Werbung) nicht nur Informationen über unseren Körper und unsere Gesundheit, sondern über uns selbst geben. Doch welche Art Wissen von "uns selbst" ist das?

Sustainable food systems: hungry for more? (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: How the pieces of art and works of Charlie Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Patricia Piccinini among others, as films, paintings, photographs, concerts, documentaries and ethnographic expeditions can promote reflections regarding more sustainable food systems globally? In this course, contents related to food production, consumption and nutrition security for all will be discussed, taking into account conventional and alternative agriculture models (including indigenous technologies), mechanisms to enhance farmers’ resilience to climate change and supply chain disruptions, prevention of food waste and loss, measures to eliminate hunger, climate-friendly diets, food packaging and culture, greener materials and processes, key drivers of food systems transformation and the potential implications of these changes on the three aspects of sustainability. The Farm to Fork strategy, at the heart of the European Green Deal and the US’ from Farm to Kitchen, together with additional pertinent references and guidelines will be presented using diverse didactic methodologies, especially case studies. Sustainable Mobility between the EU and Other Continents (FSL) (Seminar)

Inhalt: Mobility is the fastest growing sector of the economy worldwide. Parallel to the growing tendencies, the emissions of GHGs and pollutants are also increasing. But not only the environment, but also the economy is in the focus of the sustainable mobility. In the last weeks the discussions between the EU and China for introducing electric cars were very famous. We will analyse,how green is the electric mobiliy in the praxis? The consideration of the sustainability at this field iis very different in the World. Many large regions at different continents try to safe the basic mobility for the inhabitands and for supplying the people with goods. We want to consider the tendency of the mobility according the SDG17 principles. The mobility plays in many goals en important role. We invite professors for giving a lesson in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Cairo, London, Puebla and in Hamburg over Zoom. Four possible excursions are in the preparation phase: to VW Wolfsburg, DKRZ Hamburg HPA Hamburg and the Hereon Centre iGeesthacht.

Inhalt: Was passiert, wenn ich eine E-Mail versende? Wie kommt eine Website auf mein Handy? Wir alle nutzen das Internet - doch wie funktioniert das eigentlich? In dieser Veranstaltung geht es darum zu verstehen, wie das Netz arbeitet, einschliesslich der Implikationen für Privatsphäre und die Datensicherheit. Im seminaristischer Form erarbeiten die Teilnehmer verschiedene, in einander greifende Themen und erschliessen so den Gesamtkomplex. Diskussion. Auch Software-Tools zur technischen Analyse von Rechnernetzen werden im Rahmen der Veranstaltung behandelt.
