Film Screening and Online Talk with Hana Yoo (Berlin)
28. Nov
As part of the BA seminar Media Aesthetics ‘Vilém Flusser and the Technical Image’ (Dr Daniel Irrgang), we are delighted to welcome the artist Hana Yoo this week. Hana‘s work deals with artificial intelligence, animal studies, human exceptionalism and the anthropomorphic projections to which non-human actors are exposed. Working in film and multimedia installation, she engages with the allegory of nature and technological appropriation in the context of human-environment transformation and reconstructs them through storytelling. In keeping with the theme of the seminar, we will begin the talk with a screening Hana‘s ‘Splendour in the grass’ (17 mins, 2020), an investigative video work influenced by Vilém Flusser's posthumanist-speculative essay ‘Kühe’ (1972).
Hana Yoos works have been shown internationally at museums and festivals including the Fotomuseum (Winterthur, CH), European Media Art Festival (EMAF, DE), and Busan International Video Art Festival (Busan, KR) among others. In 2022, she was awarded the Berlin Art Prize. She is currently a fellow at the Academy of Arts, Berlin (Berlin Fellowship 2024 – Visual Arts).
