Talk (online) with the artist and curator Mira Hirtz on the traveling exhibition ‘Critical Zones: In Search of a Common Ground’ (India and Sri Lanka)

11. Jan

Mira Hirtz (London) is a curator of the extended travelling exhibition ‘Critical Zones: In Search of a Common Ground’ in India and Sri Lanka, with stops in Colombo and Pune (2022), Kolkata (2023), New Delhi and Bangalore (2024). The project adapts questions and strategies from the exhibition ‘Critical Zones: Observatories for Earthly Politics’ (ZKM Karlsruhe, 1/2020-9/2022), curated by Bruno Latour, Peter Weibel, Martin Guinard and Bettina Korintenberg. Mira Hirtz has collaborated with various co-curators, artists and local groups for the realisation at the respective exhibition venues; for example in the person of the artist and activist Ravi Agarwal or the researcher Lena Reitschuster (as co-curator for the exhibition in Kolkata). The project is being realised together with the ZKM Karlsruhe and the Goethe-Institut.

Mira Hirtz is, in her own words, ‘Multi-Media Artist, Movement Practitioner, Curator, Art Mediator’. In addition to her artistic and curatorial practice, she is also active in research. In December and November 2022, she was part of the webinar series ‘Intersections & Interventions: Barwe & Klee’, which explores post-colonial art-historical contexts based on the works and influence of Paul Klee and the Indian painter Prabhakar Barwe.
