Teaching and Supervision

Teaching and supervision are integral parts of the academic portfolio at all career stages. Particularly in the early stages, they require thorough preparation as well as the development of didactic and pedagogical skills. Leuphana offers a range of services to support you in this endeavour. In addition to a variety of contemporary training formats, the Teaching Service provides opportunities for professional exchange and individual counselling. You can find information and networking opportunities related to supervision at both the Graduate School and at the Department of Personnel Development for Academic Staff.

Teaching

The Teaching Portal addresses questions about planning, organising and developing teaching and assessments, including information on current topics such as the use of AI in education. The Teaching Service offers stand-alone courses as well as structured programmes, currently "Intercultural Teaching Competence" and, in German only, "Lehre am Start". On request, individual counselling is available to support you with specific questions and challenges. You can subscribe to the newsletter to stay informed about all current programmes, calls for applications and services. You can also take advantage of the networks for lecturers provided by the Teaching Service to exchange ideas on portfolio work or the use of Moodle in teaching.

Supervision

In most schools, postdoctoral researchers can already gain experience in supervising doctoral students under the applicable doctoral regulations. Formal information on Leuphana’s doctoral and supervision model is available from the Graduate School. Here you can learn more about the doctoral colleges and your (potential) role within them, as well as the individual supervision agreement that must be signed for each doctoral student. The Graduate School also coordinates the Complementary Studies that are part of all master’s programmes and the doctoral programme. If you are interested in contributing to interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary events, please contact the Graduate School.

Leadership Skills

In teaching and supervision, questions often arise concerning one’s own leadership role, leadership style and aspects of leadership responsibility. You can discuss these matters confidentially with the Department of Personnel Development for Academic Staff and participate in workshops where you can exchange ideas in small groups and benefit from the input of external experts. Details of upcoming workshops can be found in the latest events programme, available from the Department of Personnel Development for Academic Staff.
