How media shape mobilities and vice versa (new publication by Prof. Dr. Anna Lisa Ramella)

2026-08-14

For the recently published book Mediengeographie: Handbuch für Wissenschaft und Studium  (“Media Geography: A Handbook for Research and Study”, edited by Prof. Dr Tristan Thielmann and Dr Max Kanderske), Prof. Dr Anna Lisa Ramella was invited, together with Prof. Dr Roger Norum (Oulu), to write a chapter on mobile geography. The book includes contributions from Bruno Latour, Caren Kaplan, Tim Ingold and Sarah Pink, amongst others.

The article Mobile Geography proposes a systematic typology of media – ranging from transit, infrastructure and transport media to transmission and orientation media – in order to explore their functions within mobile geographies, as well as the inherent interconnections between media and mobility studies.
