DigiTaL project concludes with key impetus for digital university teaching
Over the past four years, Leuphana has expanded the further development of digital university teaching with the Digital Transformation Lab for Teaching and Learning (DigiTaL). The project created experimental development spaces in which teachers, students, service units and external partners jointly tested and reflected on new forms of digital teaching and learning.
DigiTaL comprised eleven sub-projects organised into three thematic clusters: digital teaching and learning innovation, data & digital literacy education, and digital internationalisation. This multi-level model made it possible to combine practical trials with strategic university issues and to make developments specifically usable for study and teaching. Regular exchange formats, closed-door meetings and project forums also promoted transfer and discourse within the university.
The lasting results include digital teaching concepts, reflection and communication formats, international exchange seminars and digital learning materials such as wikis, videos, podcasts and game-based applications. Many of these offerings have been integrated into curricula and continue to be used. This is complemented by the development of sustainable infrastructures, including media production rooms, mobile examination technology and digital tools that are available beyond the scope of the project.
DigiTaL also provided important structural impetus: the integration of digital examinations into the framework examination regulations, university-wide qualification programmes and a wide range of discussion and event series strengthened the institutional anchoring of digital teaching. With more than 40 lectures, 19 scientific publications and numerous contributions to internal university formats, DigiTaL also achieved national and international visibility.
The developments, results and work processes that preceded them are recorded in the detailed project documentation. This includes summaries of the measures taken in the 11 sub-projects, the clusters and at the lab level.
The evaluation report highlighted key findings from qualitative and quantitative methods and emphasised the conditions that can promote effective digital teaching at the university.
