Congratulations to Dr Niklas Bergmann on completing his doctorate

2025-12-02

Prof. Velte is delighted with the 13th successfully completed doctoral project at his professorship. Dr Niklas Bergmann successfully completed his doctorate on 1 December 2025 with the title ‘Corporate finance and climate efforts in family firms: European evidence’.

As part of his cumulative dissertation, Dr Bergmann authored three international publications, two of which have already been accepted and published in peer-reviewed journals. On the one hand, Dr Bergmann published a literature review entitled ‘Heterogeneity in family firms finance, accounting, and tax policies: dimensions, effects and implications for future research’ in the Journal of Business Economics as sole author. Together with Prof. Velte and Prof. Requejo, Dr Bergmann also published an empirical quantitative study on ‘Female directors, family firms, climate talk and walk. European evidence’ in the journal ‘Business Strategy and the Environment’. The third project, ‘Family firms and the financial consequences of corporate decarbonisation. European evidence’, is currently undergoing peer review by an international journal.

Dr Bergmann completed his doctorate while working at Continental in Hanover. As he has been working there as a manager for sustainability accounting since June 2025, the focus of his dissertation on corporate climate transformation fits in perfectly with his current professional activities.
Congratulations and many thanks to Prof. Stefan Prigge for his joint supervision over the past few years.
