Animal Ecology

How do macroecological changes affect animal assemblages, and how can conservation efforts help preserve animals and promote their diversity? Our research group investigates the causes of insect decline across various scales - using data from decades-long time series and combining them with experimental field studies and modern modeling approaches.

Biodiversity loss and climate change are great challenges of our time. To understand the underlying mechanisms and derive conservation strategies from them, we work at the intersection of functional ecology, evolutionary ecology, and predictive science. By investigating how insects respond to land-use intensity under a changing climate, we contribute to the transformation towards sustainable landscape management.
