The workshop was founded in 2009 by Mario Mechtel at the University of Tübingen and has been held regularly in the spring ever since. This year's conference marks the 18th edition of the workshop, which has since evolved from a small forum for early-career researchers into an established event. The workshop will be held for the eleventh time at Leuphana University Lüneburg in 2026. Approximately 20 current scientific studies will be presented by researchers from Germany and abroad.
On the day before the workshop, a smaller conference specifically for doctoral candidates of the doctoral program "Behavioral Economics and Societal Transformation" will take place, where they can present and discuss their current research ideas and projects. Furthermore, a PhD course on "Publishing in Behavioral and Experimental Economics" kicks off the workshop week. The doctoral program is part of the research area "Behavioral Economics and Societal Transformation" and connects behavioral economists from seven universities in Lower Saxony. It is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture through the "zukunft.niedersachsen" program.
