Critique in Digital Cultures

Martina Leeker

Today’s networked computing systems operate without allowing insight and control to human users. At the same time these systems produce extensive amounts of data and knowledge, which could be used for the industrialization of affects and perception, or for surveillance. In this situation new methods for critique are needed in order to interrupt these politics of secrecy.

The ongoing web publication “Experiments&Interventions” documents and analyzes projects with aesthetics means as research for new forms of digital critique. In “Experiments” research of digital cultures is performed with exaggeration in order to test its consequences and to reflect on them. “Interventions” provide performative and aesthetics formats for speculation on alternative ways of thinking and building digital cultures.
