Many leisure activities in Lüneburg can be found directly on the Leuphana campus - from university sports to various student initiatives. University sports is accessible to students partly free of charge or at a low cost and offers more than 150 different activities. You are sure to find something that suits you. Lüneburg also has a lot to offer in the way of cultural activities. It is one of the few towns in northern Germany that was not destroyed during the Second World War. The historic buildings lend character to the city centre. The small town is also known as a filming location for the telenovela "Rote Rosen" (Red Roses), and other productions like to visit, too . Various museums, theatres, cinemas and forums complete the cultural landscape and contribute to student life in Lüneburg.
With the Ilmenau and the Lüneburg Heath right on your doorstep, you have a variety of outdoor activities to choose from. Take the cycling trail for approx. 120 km along the Ilmenau, in fine weather try canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding or pedal boating on the Ilmenau, or walk through the heathland in the surrounding area.
Annual events in Lüneburg include the Lunatic Festival, which takes place on campus and is organised by students, the Conference Week, which is also organised by students in their first semester, and the Cultural Summer, which consists of a series of music acts known throughout Germany.
