Research at the Institute for Management and Psychology (IMP)
At the Institute for Management and Psychology (IMP), we investigate how people think, make decisions, and act in economic and social contexts. Our goal is to develop a sound understanding of behavior and experience in organizations and to derive evidence-based approaches to create effective and responsible work environments. In doing so, we combine interdisciplinary perspectives to systematically analyze complex relationships.
Our research focuses on processes of collaboration, leadership, and negotiation, as well as social-cognitive mechanisms that shape perception, judgment, and behavior. Among other topics, we investigate the conditions that enable successful entrepreneurial action and how organizations can be designed to be both high-performing and healthy, socially just, and environmentally sustainable. Transformation processes—such as those arising from new forms of work, technological developments, or societal changes—are particularly relevant in this context.
Methodologically, we take an empirical, theory-driven, and interdisciplinary approach. A key focus is on experimental and randomized controlled study designs in the lab and the field, which allow us to precisely examine psychological mechanisms and demonstrate their practical relevance. At the same time, we view research as an open and transparent process that promotes the exchange and traceability of scientific findings.
Our research philosophy combines high scientific standards with a clear practical focus. In close collaboration with international partners from academia, business, and society, we develop solutions to current challenges. In this way, the IMP contributes to making organizations future-proof and creating sustainable value for the economy and society.
