inventions and patents

The Professional School offers researchers at Leuphana University of Lüneburg advisory services on the utilization of the results of research and development as well as inventions and patents.

In cooperation with the patent utilization agency MBM ScienceBridge GmbH, which helps provide advisory services and marketing for inventions at Leuphana University of Lüneburg, patent and market research are performed, and the University is presented with a recommendation for a claim or non-claim of the invention.

This consulting support is sponsored under the Commercialization Campaign of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). The goal is to secure protections of patent rights for innovations from universities and to promote commercial utilization of these innovations. The campaign is co-financed by the Ministry for Science and Culture of the German State of Lower Saxony.

The following services are offered as part of the commercialization campaign:

  • Confidential advising for all employees (professors, research assistants or other employees) with regard to inventions and intellectual property rights
  • Performance of patent searches for members of the University community and its institutes
  • Financial support for patent applications
  • Commercial utilization of inventions, software, trademarks, designs, etc.

Under the Employee Invention Act (ArbErfG) which went into effect on February 7, 2002, inventions by all university employees (including externally funded projects) must be reported to the employer – in this case, Leuphana University of Lüneburg. The application form for employee inventions can be found on the <link intranet arbeitsplatz formulare.html _blank external-link-new-window>Intranet.
