International Economic Law

The two-year dual-degree program LLM International Economic Law enables you to engage in an in-depth study of international economic law, covering both public and private economic law. As you will spend two semesters at Leuphana Law School and the University of Glasgow, you will also acquire language and intercultural skills.

Career Fields

The LLM program qualifies you for a variety of professional tasks with a legal profile, especially on the international labor market. Depending on the focus, graduates can, for example, work in the fields of legal advice, tax consultancy or auditing in the free economy. In this field of activity, you manage companies or sub-areas, implement company goals and coordinate company activities. The development of these goals and systems is also one of the tasks in this field.

  • Order Manager: looks after customer orders from receipt to acceptance

  • Business Development Manager: Responsible for the development and implementation of new business ideas, evaluation of marketing opportunities, acquisition of strategic partners and the development of new business fields

  • Contract Manager / Contract Processor: Participate in the drafting, amendment and processing of contracts and advise clients on contract amendments, e.g. changes in the legal situation

Social Counselling and Work

In this professional field, you will primarily advise, supervise and support people in crisis or emergency situations. A further focus is education and prevention work.

  • Probation Officer: Usually responsible for the administration of justice and departments of regional courts; looks after people whose sentence has been suspended on probation in order to prevent them from reoffending
  • Court Assistant: Usually working for social services of the judiciary; checks the social/economic background of the convicted person in investigation and enforcement proceedings and, if necessary, arranges charitable work
  • Equal Opportunities Officer: Participates in measures that have an impact on equality between men and women in society and working life, e.g. in universities or public administration
  • Lawyer- social law: Deals with legal issues of social law and advises social service providers on the implementation of new legal regulations, e.g. social and pension insurance institutions, organizations of the independent welfare service, statutory health insurance funds, but also private companies in the fields of health care and social counselling
  • Mediator: Supports disputing parties, e.g. in law firms or with business consultants
  • Legal Guardian: Represents persons who, due to physical, mental or psychological disabilities, are not able to manage their legal affairs independently and only to a limited extent

Public Administration

In this field, you will mainly take on administrative and organizational tasks in authorities and administrations. This includes not only general decisions and the processing of applications, but also the securing of legal regulations.

  • Lawyer - public Law: Deals with legal issues that regulate the relationship between private law subjects and public authorities, e.g. in the diplomatic service, international organizations, university research institutions or public administration institutions
  • Employee or manager in legal departments: Assumes professional and personal responsibility for legal departments of authorities, associations, organizations and interest groups
  • Social Insurance Business Economist: organizes and monitors business activities for social insurance institutions in the statutory accident, pension, health, unemployment and nursing care insurance sectors
  • Administrative employees in the higher civil service: Take over planning, organizing and administrative tasks of public administration, e.g. in federal, state or local government
  • Administrative Lawyer: Takes on administrative and legal tasks in federal, state or local authorities
  • Administrative Scientist: Designs and controls administrative processes, e.g. at international organizations such as the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), diplomatic/consular representations of states or universities

Consulting (Tax, Management and Financial Consulting; Auditing)

This field of activity involves the assessment and advice of companies or private individuals with regard to business management issues or financing strategies.

  • Business Economist for taxes and auditing: Plans and monitors the tax, finance and accounting system of a company
  • Contract Manager/ Contract Processor: Assists in the drafting, amendment and processing of contracts and advises clients on contract amendments, e.g. changes in the legal situation
  • Mergers and Acquisition Specialist: Provides consulting services for the purchase, sale and merger of companies
  • Rating Analyst: Assesses the creditworthiness of potential borrowers and debtors
  • Tax Consultant: Advises and supports private individuals or chambers of industry and commerce in tax returns and balance sheets. Additional qualifications required.
  • Trustee: Represents the interests of trustors, advises their clients in tax, private and financial matters and acts as an intermediary between contracting parties or insolvency administrators
  • Venture Capitalist: Advises young companies in their planning and arranges start-up capital
  • Business Anglist: Takes on advisory and mediating tasks in companies that maintain business relations with English-speaking countries or in communication and PR agencies
  • Business Lawyer: Participates in the legally compliant solution of business management issues and ensures the legally smooth running of business
  • Auditor: Conducts business audits of companies (e.g. annual audits) and advises clients on business and tax issues - requires further qualification steps in addition to the studies
