Doctoral Program Sociology and Cultural Organization
The doctoral program Sociology and Cultural Organization is oriented towards sociology and social science based on cultural theory. Dissertation projects from this research area are being worked on and supervised. Their common ground is the sociological analysis of empirical cultural phenomena and questions of cultural theory; this approach is also extended to include inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives. Empirically, the focus is on qualitative methods of participatory observation, interviewing, and textual, visual, and data-based analysis, including 'mixed methods' as well as performative methods.
The research group cooperates with the DFG Graduate College Cultures of Criticism (KdK), especially with regard to research on social criticism, as well as with the Centre for Digital Cultures (CDC) investigating sociality shaped by media technology as well as the organized nature of media technology apparatuses.
Every semester, the doctoral program organizes doctoral colloquia where ongoing work can be presented; guests are welcome to attend. For PhD students, there is also a range of methodological colloquia and additional courses that are accredited as part of the doctoral program.
