Q&A Schreibzentrum / Writing Center

What do I need to bring to a consultation? How can I prepare for my consultation?

Depending on your progress and the type of project you are working on, you may upload your text and/or submit specific questions that you want to discuss during the online consultation. This and other pieces of information that you provide when signing up for a consultation will be used by staff members and tutors to prepare for the session. Please note that doing so is not a prerequisite. If, for example, you need help getting started, there is no need for you to prepare for this meeting.
If you have trouble with signing up for a consultation, you can find a short explanation of how to do it here.

What type of writing projects can I receive help on?

We provide feedback on a wide range of writing projects, for example lab reports, research papers, essays, or bachelor and master’s theses. Collaborating with Career Service, we can also support you if you are currently working on applications in English, for example for an internship or for graduate school.

Can I also receive help with job/graduate applications?

Yes, we provide feedback on these types of texts if they are written in English or, if you are non-native speaker of German, in German. If you are a native speaker of German working on an application in German, please contact the Career Service.

I have not started writing. Can I still come in for a consultation?

Yes, we would be happy to help you to get started and, depending on your individual needs and questions, provide some guidance during the initial phases of your writing project.

How long does a typical consultation last?

Consultations typically take 30-60 minutes. It is possible to schedule follow-up sessions.
