Writing Resources

Successfully complete writing projects during your studies! Please find below information and tips for successful writing.
Writing is more than just producing sentences. Many questions can arise during your writing journey. Sometimes all you need is a piece of information to move a writing project forward. If you prefer to talk instead of reading about these issues, feel free to reach out to our writing tutors.

This bilingual ➚ Wiki "Schreiben im Studium | Academic Writing" is our writing resource. There you will find the following resources:

• Key topics for term papers and theses

Before you submit your work, double check to ensure that all formalities are correct. To this end, we have compiled all requirements for you, such as cover page formatting details, a template for the statement of authorship, or guidelines regarding the use of the Leuphana logo. We also provide tips on citation conventions and much more.

• Writing as a project: How to design and manage the writing process

Writing a term paper or thesis takes time and everyone approaches the process differently. If you know your writing style, you have an advantage here because you can more easily overcome your individual challenges. Take the writer’s personality test to find out what type of writer you are ( ➚ Test: What kind of Writer are you?). We also provide examples of writing strategies and writing techniques that can support you in your work.

• AI and writing

With the development of ChatGPT in particular, artificial intelligence has reached a new level that is changing academic work and writing. We will help you navigate the new challenges and questions posed by AI. We are also currently engaged with the broader academic discourse on AI usage in university life.

• Reading and literature management

During your studies, you will read several academic journal articles. These sources will form the basis for your academic writing. We therefore present strategies and techniques for reading as well as strategies organizing your sources to write more effectively. These types include literature management tools (for example Zotero or Citavi), active reading, and focus exercises.

• Writing digitally

We examine the following questions: When does it make sense to write with a pen or keyboard? Am I using my word processor effectively? We address these questions and several more.

• Tips on writing guides and handbooks

Countless writing guides have been published over the years. We have selected our favorite books about writing and summarized them on our Wiki. These summaries will help you select a guide that can best help you with your projects.

Evaluating/Being evaluated – for instructors and students

How can student assignments be assessed? In cooperation with the College, the Schreibzentrum / Writing Center has developed an assessment rubric for the module “Problematizing Science: Critical Thinking” (Leuphana Semester). The rubric is available in German and English.

There is also a handout for students that explains the evaluation criteria and provides guidance on how to meet instructors’ expectations.
