Content:
This study aims to inspire ways to integrate musical content that belongs to oral music traditions, with languages, instruments and aesthetics that are not commonly represented in Western music platforms. Mainstream popular musical repertoire is predominantly applied in secondary school ensemble pedagogy. Therefore, valuable opportunities for learning music that come from other cultural sources are often excluded at this educational level. This research aims to contrast this common practice with applying culturally diverse musical repertoire in the classroom. The research findings observe that this method improves students’ musical perception and learning processes.
