Lehrveranstaltungen

It is 1989 and the reunification is happening. However, is it? This course involves using alternative timelines (speculative fiction) combined with theories of power and diplomacy. Students will apply the theories discussed in class by using creative writing to re-think and re-write history. In doing so, students will see how individuals can effect society.

Students will a write collaborative novella about the alternative history of the German/European re-unification. Please note there are 3 double hours which mandatory attendance is required. The collaborative story and the writing assignments will be set up and started in these sessions. The schedule is in the material section.

Ecological history is about how the land and biosphere change in response to human culture and human organization. Some of this is popularized as it has been by Jared Diamond who wrote Guns, Germs, and Steel, and Collapse. More recently, and important book is The Dawn of Everything by David Graeber and David Wuthnow. Other works of relevance include William McNeill Plagues and Peoples, Alfred Crosby Ecological Imperialism, and William Cronon Changes in the Land.
