Werdegang

Robin Kuchar studierte Angewandte Kulturwissenschaften (Magister Artium) mit den Schwerpunkten Musik, Kulturvermittlung & Kulturorganisation an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. In seiner Abschlussarbeit schrieb er zum Thema "Popmusik und Globalisierung. Perspektiven lokaler Produktion und globaler Zirkulation."

Seit 2012 ist er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Soziologie und Kulturorganisation an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg. Daneben war er von 2014 bis 2015 als Referent im Projektmanagement des EU-Großprojekts 'Innovations-Inkubator' an der Leuphana tätig.

Seine Promotion mit dem Titel 'Musikclubs zwischen Szene, Stadt und Music Industries. Autonomie, Vereinnahmung, Abhängigkeit' erschien Anfang 2020 über SpringerVS. (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-658-29243-0)

Derzeit ist Robin Post-Doc am ISKO, Mitherausgeber der Reihe 'Urban Music Studies', Mitglied im IASPM D-A-CH & IASPM Portugal, aktive im KISMIF Netzwerk (u.a. im Editorial Board des Journals DIY, Alternative Cultures & Society) sowie Mit-Initiator des Urban Music Studies Scholars´Network (www.urbanmusicstudies.org). Darüber hinaus ist er Collaborative Scholar am CITCEM (Transdisciplinary Research Centre «Culture, Space and Memory») und am Institute of Sociology an der Faculdade de Letras Porto sowie Programmkoordinator des ERASMUS+ Austauschsprogramms zwischen der Leuphana und der Universität Porto.

Forschungsinteressen: (Musik-)szenen, Kultur und Raum, Kultur/Musik und Stadt, DiY Cultures, Underground-Kultur und soziale Herausforderungen, Organisationsformen kultureller Produktion, Kulturbesuch und kulturelle Partizipation, Entwicklung kollektiver Räume & theoretischer Konzepte der Kulturorganisation.

Neben aller wissenschaftlicher Tätigkeit diverse Erfahrungen in den Bereichen Konzert-/ Veranstaltungsorganisation, Label- und Projektmanagement sowie Ton- und Veranstaltungstechnik.

 

English CV:

Robin completed his MA studies in Applied Cultural Science in early 2009 by finishing his thesis about Popular Music and Globalization.

In 2017, he completed his phd thesis about the development and transformation of DIY based music venues. Carrying out three case studies of DIY based music clubs in Hamburg-St. Pauli, the analysis focuses changing spatial strategies, identities and self-conceptions of the clubs within the spheres of local scenes, the city and the Music Industries.

Currently, Robin works as Post-Doc Researcher and Lecturer at Institute of Sociology and Cultural Organization. His main research interests are Culture and the City, DIY & Underground Scenes, Production of Culture, Music Industries, Livemusic & Music Venues and Cultural Participation.

Robin is co-series editor of 'Urban Music Studies', member of IASPM, KISMIF and co-initiator of the Urban Music Studies Scholars Network (www.urbanmusicstudies.org).

Apart from academia, Robin worked as project manager for the ‚Hamburg Day of Music 2012‘ (NGO) and for the mission orientated research project ‘Who is Musicking in Hamburg?’ (2009), initiated by the municipality of Hamburg. For years, he was/ is organizing concerts, running a DIY Music Label and doing live-sound engineering.
