Interact4School: Out-of-school individual learning and the interfaces to school teaching: Effective digital practising as a basis for competence-oriented foreign language teaching (duration: 04/2020 - 03/2023)

It is important for learning success that exercise processes are designed as individually as possible. Especially in school teaching and against the background of the increasing diversity of the student body, however, it is increasingly difficult to provide differentiated learning content. For this reason, successful learning of foreign languages, for example, requires above all practice at home. This should, however, be accompanied by individual feedback if possible. The present research project is concerned with the question of how the different areas of education can be well designed and coordinated. Researchers at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the Leuphana University of Lüneburg are investigating a digital, interactive textbook that is used in English foreign language teaching. The interdisciplinary teams are investigating the learning effects of the interactive textbook by, among other things, evaluating usage data and conducting classroom observations. They interview pupils and teachers and investigate the influence of preparatory digital practice on school lessons and pupils' performance. The partners in the network contribute to the project both the necessary foreign language didactic expertise and expertise from empirical educational research and computer linguistics.
