2018-10-11

The Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, together with Heinz Nixdorf Foundation has launched a competition entitled Data Literacy Education, which aims to enable students to question and evaluate statements and correlations from data in a self-determined, responsible and reflective manner in the age of digital change. From 47 concept submissions, eight were taken into closer selection, under which the Leuphana due to the initiative of Professor Dr. Burkhardt and the concept "DATA DRIVEN x (DATAx)" succeeded. For the implementation of the concept within the framework of the Leuphana semester, the initiative receives a financial contribution of 250,000 € from the Stifterverband.

Together with the director of the Leuphana College, Dr. Steffi Hobuß, Prof. Dr. Funk would like to promote the concept of interdisciplinary and cross-faculty teaching at Leuphana to make this approach an example of best practice for other medium-sized universities. The support will start in the now commenced winter semester 2018/19 and is scheduled for a period of three years.
