Vita

Burkhardt Funk is a full professor of information systems at Leuphana University. After studying physics and computer science at various universities (Kiel, Würzburg, Stony Brook) he received his PhD from the university of Wuppertal. His research interests include building decision models and support systems, based on methods from machine learning and Bayesian Statistics, in a variety of application areas such as Electronic Business, Electronic Mental Health, and environmental management. He has co-authored more than 70 scientific articles and 4 books and acquired project funding of more than 3 Mio. EUR. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and the Stanford University. Burkhardt has a wealth of practical experience in data mining projects, has been active as an entrepreneur and is a regular advisor to leading European companies. He is married and has two daughters.
