Southend High School for Boys is a secondary Grammar school located in the north-west of Southend-on-Sea, England. It is one of the oldest schools in Southend-on-Sea. Students range from 11 to 18 years old. SHSB is an all boys school in the lower forms, but welcomes girls in the Sixth Form.
SHSB has received the National Association for Able Children in Education (NACE) Challenge Award "for Excellence in Provision for Able, Gifted & Talented Pupils", the Leading Aspect Award, and the Department for Education and Skills Sportsmark award. Additionally, it was one of the few schools in the country to achieve "outstanding" in the latest Ofsted inspection.
General Info
An unpaid internship for either 1,5 or 3 months. The school is very flexible as to the timing of an internship, but can only accept one student at a time. The school is particularly interested in receiving students during the exam preparation period from March - May.

Duties
You will support the German teaching staff as a foreign language assistant five days a week. You will observe classes and work with small groups of students on your own.
Application Requirements
Apply with a CV and letter of motivation in English (both in PDF format by email).
Your letter of motivation should include what you expect of your time at SHSB and, importantly, what skills or interests you have that you can contribute to the school. These do not have to be related to your position as a German Language Assistant.
A Criminal Records Bureau check must be completed in order to allow you to work with school children and requires a passport.
Costs
There is no participation fee. You may apply for a Leonardo or Erasmus+ grant for students abroad. Further information on financing your stay abroad here.
Room rental prices can vary, but students should be able to find a room in the range of 80 - 140 GBP per week.
London Southend Airport is just outside of Southend. There are also good connections available to/from London Stansted Airport.
Accommodation
A teacher at the school is happy to accomodate students for 6 weeks. However, if you stay longer, there is no guarantee that SHSB will be able to provide any offers of accommodation and students may have to locate accommodation on their own.
