2022-12-08 Scientists from Lüneburg are among the top 2 percent internationally in their fields.
Lüneburg. Since 2019, Professor John P.A. Ioannidis from Stanford University has been publishing a much-acclaimed ranking that records the world's best approximately 200,000 scientists on the basis of standardised citation indicators. The current evaluation from autumn this year looks at citations in 2021 and lists a total of 16 academics from Leuphana University Lüneburg, who can thus count themselves among the 2 percent of the most frequently cited authors in their field worldwide.
Prof. Dr. Klaus Kümmerer is ranked 13th out of a total of 104,983 scientists worldwide in the field of environmental sciences. Measured by citations, he is in first place in Germany. Prof. Dr. Jens Newig, Prof. Dr. Daniel Lang and Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth are also among the most cited scientists in this field.
In the field of Business & Management, Prof. Dr. Stefan Schaltegger and Prof. Dr. Michael Frese are among the top 5 in Germany. Also among the most cited researchers in this field are Prof. Dr. Jacob Hörisch and Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte.

In order to evaluate the academic performance of the scientists, the authors of the study used a total of six citation-related criteria, from which a key figure, the so-called "Composite Citation Index", is derived, which also takes into account distortions caused by self-citations. The author ranking takes into account subject areas from the natural sciences, life sciences, technical sciences, humanities and social sciences. In total, the data of around 9 million scientists and scholars were evaluated.
