Prof. Dr. Stefan Klingbeil, LL.M. (Yale), has declined the offer from Ruhr-Universität Bochum for the W3 Professorship in Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law and has accepted the retention offer from Leuphana University Lüneburg. This decision ensures that Leuphana Law School retains an outstanding legal scholar and esteemed colleague.

“The offer from Bochum was a great honour for me,” emphasises Klingbeil, “but I am very pleased with my decision to stay in Lüneburg. I find the atmosphere at Leuphana Law School extremely inspiring. I am also convinced by the innovative Lüneburg model for law studies, as it not only fully integrates the degree programme into the Bologna Process, but also combines interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approaches. The sense of renewal is palpable every day among the young faculty of the Law School. I am therefore very much looking forward to helping shape the future of legal education in Lüneburg.”

Prof. Klingbeil studied law at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg and subsequently completed his legal traineeship at the Higher Regional Court in Hamburg. He then pursued a master's degree at Yale Law School, followed by the completion of his doctorate in 2017. In 2023, he completed his habilitation at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main with a thesis supervised by Prof. Dr. Felix Maultzsch, LL.M. (NYU) on the interplay between private law and procedural law. He was awarded the Venia Legendi for the subjects of Civil Law, German and European Civil Procedure Law, Legal Theory, and Comparative Law. After serving as a substitute professor in Lüneburg and Frankfurt, he was appointed in October 2024 to the Chair of Civil Law and Civil Procedure Law at Leuphana University Lüneburg.

Leuphana Law School is delighted that Prof. Klingbeil will continue to enrich the Law School with his outstanding expertise and dedication, and wishes him every success in his forthcoming endeavours.
