The Senate: Responsibility and Pluralism

The Senate is the elected university body for academic self-administration. All four member groups of the university are represented here; professors, academic staff, employees in the areas of technology and administration, and students. The Senate is chaired by the President.

According to § 41 NHG, the Senate decides, among other things, on the regulations pertaining to application and admission, general examination regulations, examination regulations for inter-faculty study programs, the university development planning, and the basic regulations.

In the winter semester 2021/22, a new Senate was elected for the term of office starting in April 2022.

Due to a shift in the election date to the summer semester starting in 2024 as provided for in the election regulations, the term of office of this Senate is 2.5 years. The term of office for student members of the Senate beginning in April 2022 is 1.5 years. After this transition, the term of the Senate will be two years and the student members of the Senate will each be elected for a one-year term.
