Sustainable Chemistry for All: Edited Volume Now Open Access
2025-12-17
The edited volume “Chemistry Education for a Sustainable Future” (https://doi.org/10.1039/9781837676576-FP001), co-edited by Prof. Dr. Klaus Kümmerer, has recently been published Open Access by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and is therefore freely available worldwide. At the same time, it is the first fully Open Access book released by this renowned publisher.
The volume explores ways of integrating systems thinking, planetary boundaries and the UN Sustainable Development Goals into chemistry teaching concepts, and presents practice-oriented didactic approaches and teaching materials. Through this approach, the publication responds to the growing need to systematically embed sustainability in chemistry curricula.
The book has been met with very positive feedback within the academic community. In particular, its free accessibility is highlighted as a major added value for global education and training in the field of sustainable chemistry.
The edited volume was funded by the Lower Saxony Open Access Publication Fund “NiedersachsenOPEN” and the Publication Fund of the Media and Information Centre (MIZ) at Leuphana University.
The MIZ publication service provides comprehensive support to Leuphana researchers on all questions related to the funding of Open Access monographs and edited volumes.
