Now also on air: Leuphana alumni help with study choices

2022-11-01 Lüneburg. Since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, the use of podcasts as a source of information has boomed. For prospective students, reports on their experiences play a major role in their choice of study programme. So why not have graduates report on their studies and career entry in podcasts? Leuphana University Lüneburg now offers 55 podcasts with former students who talk about their jobs at Netflix, SPIEGEL, Instagram or Google, for example, and about their own start-ups.

The resulting podcast series "Karriere leupht" is not only available on all relevant podcast platforms. Recently, Radio ZuSa has also started broadcasting the conversations with the alumni on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cooperation with the non-commercial citizens' radio station for Heide and Elbmarsch, which is located on the Leuphana campus in Lüneburg, has initially been arranged for one year.

Leuphana is pursuing two goals with its project: On the one hand, it wants to use the podcast service to maintain contact with its graduates by taking an interest in their experiences and career paths. On the other hand, it wants to respond to the needs of prospective students. When choosing their degree programme, they trust the assessments and reports of alumni, as a nationwide media usage analysis by Leuphana revealed. According to the study, 56% of those surveyed use recommendations from alumni and students and 74% have informed themselves about degree programmes via smartphone.
