Federal Environment Minister appoints Vicky Temperton to Climate Protection Advisory Board
2024-03-20 Lüneburg/Berlin. Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke has now appointed 16 high-calibre scientists to the Scientific Advisory Board for Natural Climate Protection (WBNK). Among them is Professor Vicky Temperton from Leuphana University Lüneburg, an expert in Ecosystem Functioning and Services. With immediate effect, the WBNK will provide the Federal Government with independent advice on natural climate protection issues and provide scientific support to the Federal Environment Ministry in the implementation of the Natural Climate Protection Action Programme (ANK). The committee is initially appointed for three years and works on an honorary basis.
"With the Scientific Advisory Board for Natural Climate Protection, we have scientific, practical and independent support at our side on a permanent basis. With their expertise, the members make a significant contribution to ensuring that our measures for natural climate protection have the greatest possible impact," said Environment Minister Lemke in Berlin. The experts from the fields of practice, economics, social sciences and law will use their experience to ensure that decisive progress is made in protecting, strengthening and restoring forests and floodplains, soils and peatlands, seas and water bodies as well as green spaces in urban and rural areas.

With the Natural Climate Protection Action Programme, the Federal Environment Ministry is ensuring that the general condition of ecosystems in Germany is significantly improved, thereby strengthening their resilience and climate protection performance. Nature on land and in the sea is to be better protected and made more resilient in order to make a lasting contribution to the national climate protection targets. Intact ecosystems play a crucial role in this.
