Energy Forum. Status and prospects of the energy transition

2025-08-21 Lüneburg. The 13th Leuphana Energy Forum will take place on September 2. This year, the focus will be on what has been achieved so far with regard to the energy transition and where the path ahead leads. The ambitious climate targets are unlikely to be met, and many people no longer believe that politicians are capable of halting climate change. On the other hand, there are also positive effects, as some of the measures introduced are proving effective.

Representatives from science and practice will exchange views on the political, economic, legal, financial, and technical aspects of the topic. The plenary session, specialist presentations, and discussions will focus on topics such as an interim assessment of the energy transition in Lower Saxony, energy systems of the future, large-scale battery storage, citizen and municipal participation, and financing the energy transition.

Up to 200 participants from business, science, administration, and civil society are expected to attend the one-day event in the central building of Leuphana University. The event is organized by Leuphana University of Lüneburg and the Climate Protection and Energy Agency of Lower Saxony (KEAN) in cooperation with the ECOLOG Institute for Social-Ecological Research and Education and the Foundation for Financing and Financial Management.

Anka Dobslaw, State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Environment, will give a keynote speech on “The Energy Transition in Lower Saxony – Interim Results and Outlook.” Leuphana Professor Claudia Kemfert will address the question “Energy Transition – Where Do We Need to Go?” in her closing speech.
