Leuphana invites Lüneburg and the metropolitan region to the "Long Night of Utopias" on 30 August

Highlight of the Utopia Conference with Maja Göpel, Jagoda Marinić and Florence Gaub, among others

2024-08-23 Where does trust grow? There will be a festival atmosphere at the Utopia Conference on Friday. Leuphana University invites interested parties from Lüneburg and the metropolitan region to the "Long Night of Utopias" on 30 August from 6 pm. The Friday evening will be hosted by transformation researcher Maja Göpel and writer Jagoda Marinić.

Under marquee roofs, on mobile stages and around campfires, the Long Night brings together voices from all over Germany and beyond to explore the practice of trust. Florence Gaub, Director of Research at the NATO Academy in Rome, explores the security of tomorrow, content creator Ole Liebl discovers friendship plus, economist Betiel Berhe analyses the migrant middle class and Maral Koohestanian, Wiesbaden's youngest city councillor, invents a new urban policy.

Open studios will focus on the rights of nature, digital gardening and the question of how we can trust each other as foreigners. Installations on utopias of artificial intelligence can be discovered, as can an exhibition on the unconditional basic income. Judy LaDivina talks about how art can bridge divides and the duo Psytronic create electronic soundscapes in the Geodom.
Initiatives from urban and rural areas bring stories of trust that tell a new version of the future today: These include the cultural centre "Unter einem Dach" from Hanover, which is committed to a diverse society, and the "Monneta" network from Steyerberg, which aims to overcome illiteracy when it comes to money.

If you like, you can round off the Long Night with a film. In the Libeskind Auditorium, the Utopia Conference will be showing the premiere of the improv comedy "Micha denkt groß" (with Charly Hübner & Jördis Triebel, among others). Maja Göpel then invites you to a film discussion with director and screenwriter Lars Jessen. Under the motto "Trust is good, confidence is better", filmmaker and journalist Reinhard Kahl will be showing a film review in search of good schools. Guests include Maxi Heß, the head of the Dresden University School, and Stefan Ruppaner, the founding headmaster of the Alemannen Schule Wutöschingen.

All interested parties are welcome - regardless of whether they have ever travelled to a university campus before. Discounted tickets are available in advance on the Utopia Conference website: www.leuphana.de/utopie

A box office will be available on the university campus from 6pm on Friday.

If you would like to attend the entire Utopia Conference from 29 to 31 August, you can still secure a Utopia ticket for all three days (including the "Long Night"): www.leuphana.de/utopie
