Research Associate (m/f/d) PostDoc
(Subject: WiMi Englische Sprachwissenschaft)
(salary group EG 13 TV-L, 50%, for a limited period of 4 years)

The position is based at the chair of Prof. Dr. Anne Barron.

Your tasks:

  • Planning and teaching courses totaling 2 SWS per week in English linguistics including including exam organisation and student counselling and supervising Bachelor's and Master's theses
  • Collaboration on research, development, and knowledge transfer projects projects in the research fields of the English Linguistics working group (see below) (assistance with the preparation of grant applications, project coordination of ongoing projects, scholarly publications)
  • Supporting English Linguistics and the Institute of English Studies in administrative and exam-related tasks as well as, e.g., in conceptually further development of the study programs
  • Further academic qualification (e.g. third party funding applications, post-doctoral thesis) within the research areas of the English Linguistics group.

Your profile:

  • Above-average university degree in the field of English Studies/ American Studies/ English Linguistics/ Applied Linguistics or in a related field (Master's degree or equivalent)
  • A relevant completed doctorate in the field of English Linguistics/ Applied Linguistics or in a related field
  • A research focus in at least one of the following areas: Irish English Pragmatics, Variational Pragmatics, Corpus Pragmatics, Interlanguage Pragmatics, Intercultural Pragmatics, Cross-Cultural Pragmatics, Genre Analysis, Sociolinguistics
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods
  • University teaching experience in the area of English linguistics
  • Experience in presenting research findings at international conferences
  • Academic publication track record
  • Experience with externally funded projects (application writing, project collaboration) desirable
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Good to very good knowledge of spoken and written German (desirable)
  • Very good teamwork, communication and organisational skills
  • Committed and responsible approach to work; ability to work under pressure and flexibility
