The European Union and its member states are challenged by unsustainable developments. In order to better understand the possibilities and challenges of sustainability governance in the EU it is, at first, necessary to recognize the EU institutions, actors, instruments and its structures and processes of decision-making. Based on this analysis country studies with a focus on selected sustainability challenges will be conducted.
