Vita

After his study of German philology, philosophy and comparative literature, PhD at the Ruhr University of Bochum in 1981 with the work Ein ungelehrtes Buch“. The philosophical community between Hölderlin and Hegel in Frankfurt in 1797-1800 (Bonn: Bouvier in 1983, 2nd ed. in 1988). Afterwards research assistant in the Hegel-Archive of the Ruhr University Bochum. 1989/90 Fellow-in-residence at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS). Habilitation 1990 in Bochum with the work Gott an hat ein Gewand“. Borders and perspectives of philosophical myth theories of the present (Frankfurt a. M.: Suhrkamp in 1990, 2nd ed. in 1999). From 1994-1997 chair of philosophy with special consideration of the German idealism at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, since 1997 chair of philosophy at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.

Research Interests

Main research interests: Philosophy of the Modern Era with a focus on German Idealism, Phenomenology and Hermeneutics, in this framework especially Heidegger, as well as other topics such as the philosophy of myth, representation and cultural studies.
