Institute of Sustainable and Environmental Chemistry (ISEC)
At the Institute of Sustainable and Environmental Chemistry the use of chemical substances and the impact of chemicals and pharmaceuticals on the environment and society is one of the main issues of our research and teaching activities. In this respect two complementary subcategories play a central role, i.e. Environmental Chemistry and Sustainable Chemistry. Environmental Chemistry focuses on studies regarding the environmental fate and behavior of already existing chemicals. Based on this, the Sustainable Chemistry develops solutions that meet the criteria of sustainability.

Study Programmes
Studying Sustainable Chemistry in Lüneburg!
Many questions of sustainability involve substances and material resources. Thus, environmental chemistry, sustainable chemistry and material resources are integral part of our Bachelor and Master courses.
At the Institute of Sustainable and Environmental Chemistry the following study courses are being offered:
Bachelor Environmental Sciences
Master of Sustainability Sciences
PhD Studies
Additional possibilities for in-depth studies after having finished the master studies are to promote with a PHD-thesis in either of the following topics:
- Environmental Chemistry
- Sustainable Chemistry
- Material resources
- Science education
The acquired doctorate title will be “Dr. rer. nat.”. For more information on PhD studies at the Leuphana, please click here
