Public Climate School in Hamburg and Lüneburg

From 27 to 29 May 2026, the Joachim Herz Doctoral School is participating in this year's Public Climate School which is being hosted in collaboration with the University of Hamburg, the Climate Clinic, Clic and Public Climate Schools. The event will take place in Lüneburg on 27 May and in Hamburg on 28–29 May.

On 27 May, the following takes place on the Leuphana Campus:

  • An exhibition on climate migration in the foyer of the Leuphana Library (all day long).
  • Workshops on the topic of 'Climate-Induced Migration', focusing on legal challenges and opportunities, will take place between 10:00 and 17:00 in Room C40.601 (Central Building). These workshops will be facilitated by Karim Walkusch (Refugee Law Clinic Göttingen), Magdalena Maya Benesova and Prof. Dr. Lila Garcia (FEU Nürnberg). 
  • In the evening, from 18:00 to 20:00, the day will conclude with a panel discussion on the topic 

    'Where do we go now? Climate-induced migration in the context of global common but differentiated responsibilities with regard to climate change: legal strategies vs. lived realities'. 

    This will also take place in Room C40.601 and will feature Prof. Dr. Walter Kälin (Universität Bern), Prof. Dr. Lila Garcia, Dr. Kira Vinke (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Auswärtige Politik, DGAP), and Prof. Dr. Felicitas Hillmann TU Berlin).
