Doctoral Studies

At the professorships of Leuphana Law School, candidates have the opportunity to pursue a doctorate (Dr. iur.). Admission requirements include the completion of a relevant diploma, magister, or master's degree program, or an equivalent degree that qualifies for the Erste Prüfung (First State Examination in Law) or another comparable international qualification, as well as exceptional academic aptitude for doctoral studies. Students at Leuphana University Lüneburg who realize during their studies that they wish to pursue an academic career can follow the so-called Doctoral Track, allowing them to begin their doctoral dissertation during their master's studies.

Doctoral candidates not only write their dissertation but also participate in a structured doctoral program at the Leuphana Graduate School, comprising 30 credit points (CP). Law doctoral researchers are integrated into one of the two doctoral research groups at Leuphana Law School: the Doctoral Research Group Law or the Joachim Herz School of Law.
