Gülce KORKMAZ ERDEM is a Ph.D. Research Fellow at the Joachim Herz Doctoral School of Law at Leuphana University Lüneburg. Her doctoral research, supervised by Professor Wolfgang Wurmnest (University of Hamburg), examines comparative approaches to digital market regulation in the European Union, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. Her project focuses on how different legal systems define, justify, and implement ex-ante regulatory frameworks such as the EU’s Digital Markets Act, Section 19a of the German Act against Restraints of Competition (GWB), the United Kingdom’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act, and Turkey’s proposed amendments to the Competition Act.
Before joining Leuphana, Gülce worked as a Research Assistant at Bilkent University Faculty of Law, where she also obtained her LL.M. Her master’s thesis, The Concept of Control in the Scope of Acquisitions Realized in Corporate Groups, explored corporate acquisitions from the perspectives of corporate, competition, and capital markets law. Prior to her academic career, she practiced as a competition lawyer in Istanbul, advising multinational clients on merger control, investigations, and compliance matters before the Turkish Competition Authority and national courts.
Her research interests include competition law, digital platform regulation, law and economics, and comparative law. She has co-authored several book chapters and scholarly publications in Turkish and English. Gülce also served as one of the editors of Liber Amicorum in Honour of Professor Zühtü Aytaç (2022). In addition, she regularly contributes to Concurrences e-Competitions Bulletin with analyses of recent decisions by the Turkish Competition Board. She has presented her research at international academic events.
Gülce is a member of the Academic Society for Competition Law (ASCOLA) and the Istanbul Bar Association.
