Civil Law
In the Civil Law department, members of Leuphana Law School focus their teaching and research on International Commercial Private Law, European and International Private and Business Law, as well as Comparative Law. Further areas of study include Transnational Law, Procedural Law, and Labour Law.
Guided by the principle of "Law in Context", research and teaching in this field aim to analyse and convey private law through interdisciplinary approaches. Scholars in the Civil Law department examine the role of private law in societal transformation processes and in addressing global challenges. Several professorships are dedicated to research on Sustainable Private Law. Another key focus is the analysis of legal provisions designed to counteract structural power imbalances. Throughout, the interaction of private law regulations at national, European, and international levels remains a central consideration.
