Teacher training at Leuphana with new profiles

2020-11-12 Starting in the summer semester 2021, students of teaching at elementary, secondary and grammar schools at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg will be able to choose one of three profiles to focus on as part of their regular studies. The university responds to current challenges in the German education system with the topics "Inclusion and Diversity", "Digital Teaching and Learning" and "Language Education".

"The aim of the profile study program is to deepen the professional skills of the student teachers beyond a basic qualification and thus to enable the future teachers to act in a reflective, innovative and situational way," explains Professor Jessica Süßenbach, Dean of Studies of the Faculty of Education. With the introduction of the profile courses of study, Leuphana is making an important contribution to the development of modern teacher training.

For students, the new model offers the opportunity to prepare themselves to meet the urgent challenges of school practice, regardless of the subjects and school types. Schools will also benefit from the approach, as it will provide them with teachers who have specialized early and intensively in their interests. The profile program will also strengthen cooperation within the university between researchers from the fields of educational science, subject didactics and specialist science, and thus strengthen the entire teaching staff training process.
