Professor Velte is the best business researcher in the German-speaking world

2022-12-16 Lüneburg/Düsseldorf. A current ranking by WirtschaftsWoche magazine shows Prof. Dr. Patrick Velte from Leuphana University Lüneburg as the best German-speaking researcher in business administration. The expert for Accounting, Auditing & Corporate Governance from the Leuphana School of Management & Technology is ranked first in the so-called "DACH region" (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) for the period 2018-2022. Velte's research achievements also represent a change in business administration: the sustainability of companies is increasingly coming into focus in the discipline, which traditionally focuses on topics such as cost optimisation.

The sustainability perspective plays a major role in Velte's research. In his publications, he explores, among other things, the question of how sustainability can be strategically and operationally anchored in the organisation of companies. In doing so, it is important to him not only to be perceived by an academic specialist audience, but also to reach the public and politics with his research results.

Professor Velte is not only represented in the five-year ranking. The 42-year-old also does very well in the lifetime achievement ranking of business administration researchers. There he is currently already in 7th place. Prof. Michael Frese, who also belongs to Leuphana's School of Management & Technology, is also among the top 50 in the lifetime achievement ranking.

WirtschaftsWoche had previously also published an overview of the universities with the strongest research in business administration in the German-speaking world. In this ranking, Leuphana University Lüneburg was able to improve further, ranking 19th among the top 20 research-strongest German-speaking institutions and was the only university in Lower Saxony to be placed.

Background
The ranking takes into account all business management articles by more than 3,500 academics on a voluntary basis that were published in professional journals from 2018-2022. Just under ten per cent of the 3,638 business administration researchers included in the survey did not participate - but only three of them would have made it into the top 100.
Depending on the reputation of the journals, the economists received a graduated point value for each paper. The weighting follows the "Jourqual" journal ranking of the Association of University Teachers of Business Administration (VHB). The data source is a web portal operated by the KOF Economic Research Institute at ETH Zurich.
