Leuphana Conference Week: "Our Turn": on power and powerlessness in times of crisis
2023-02-27 Lüneburg. The Leuphana Conference Week "OUR TURN" from March 1 to 3 is about power and powerlessness in times of escalating crises. The event marks the end of the first semester for around 1,300 students at Leuphana University Lüneburg. After two digital conference weeks, students and interested parties from the region will meet again for the first time in presence on the central campus on Universitätsallee.
This year, the conference week will focus on the possibilities for action of open societies in the face of ever new states of emergency. Renowned guests from all over Germany will discuss freedom, human rights and earth politics at the turn of the times with the students. The opening speech on March 1 at 1 p.m. will be given by writer and columnist Jagoda Marinić, who also hosts the podcast "Freiheit Deluxe."
In the afternoon, at 4 p.m., Marinić will speak with philosopher Richard David Precht about the crisis of liberal society, and in the evening with internationally renowned conflict researcher Nicole Deitelhoff about ways to achieve a just peace in Ukraine. Hamburg's Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda will meet Richard David Precht on the same day in the Libeskind Auditorium to discuss the future of democracy.
"In the conference program, we try to bridge the gap between big questions and concrete options for shaping them," explains conference director Sven Prien-Ribcke. "We're looking forward to the debates with economist Rüdiger Bachmann from the U.S. on a resilient economy, as well as the program focus on the future city of Lüneburg, which aims to reap the harvest of eight years of cooperation between the Hanseatic city, the university and civil society."
Real-life experiments on the city of the future can be explored by students and interested citizens in seminar plenums and on an interactive course in the foyer of the central building on March 2. Thursday evening is reserved for a Lüneburg pub quiz and live music by the artist MOGLII at Klippo starting at 8 p.m. On Friday morning at 10 o'clock the large balance discussion stands "What makes the future city good?" on the program. Participating in it, among others: transformation researcher Maja Göpel, Lüneburg mayor Claudia Kalisch, mosaique founder Corinna Krome and the scientific project manager Daniel Lang.
With the physician and journalist Gilda Sahebi the conference week on Friday looks still at the women's rights struggles in Iran, before Maja Göpel asks at 12:30 o'clock the chairperson of the German ethics advice, Alena Buyx, about it, what we can learn from the Pandemie for the climatic protection.
