Leuphana awards five doctoral scholarships

2023-05-17 As part of its research initiative "The Disruptive Condition", Leuphana University Lüneburg invites applications for five doctoral scholarships. It is addressing outstandingly qualified applicants from the spectrum of subjects in the humanities, cultural studies and social sciences.

Prerequisites for receiving a scholarship are admission to doctoral studies and enrolment in the doctoral programme at Leuphana. The scholarships are endowed with 1,300 euros per month and are initially awarded for one year. They can be extended up to a maximum funding period of 3 years in total.

The research initiative "The Disruptive Condition" is dedicated to a specific socio-historical experience of time that did not begin with pandemics, war or the public perception of resource scarcity and climate change. Whether the disturbed perception of time in the communication society, financialised capitalism, the entanglements of the Anthropocene or insecurity set in perpetuity as anxiety and existential fear: the experience of time is disruptive.

The doctoral scholarships are intended to stimulate further research in this thematic field. On the one hand, it is about the logic of interruption, fragmentation, decay and disruption - which is at odds with classical notions of crisis and transformation - in short, disruption as a formative moment of contemporary societies. On the other hand, it is about the shaping of life in a disruptive time and the possibilities that develop from the disruptive experience.

The research initiative is based at the Center for Critical Studies at Leuphana. This institution bundles the research relevant to critical theories, analyses and practices of cultural studies in Lüneburg.
