Luisa Neubauer opens the second Helmut Schmidt Future Festival
2024-04-04 Hamburg/Lüneburg. What would we regret later because we didn't do it? With this question in mind, the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT, the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation and Leuphana University Lüneburg are jointly hosting the second Helmut Schmidt Future Festival from 13 to 15 May 2024. The festival will bring together 75 young future designers on the Leuphana campus to explore the future of climate protection, democracy and artificial intelligence.
Meik Woyke, Chairman of the Board of the Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt Foundation, on the festival: "We need the ideas of young people, their open view of democracy and their commitment to democratic values." What innovative ideas and projects does the young generation use to inspire other people? For the second year, students, trainees, activists and founders from Austria, Switzerland and Germany are invited to answer this question. At the Future Festival, they will meet climate activist Luisa Neubauer, Hamburg's Senator for Culture Carsten Brosda and founder Tiaji Sio, as well as net-political journalist Markus Beckedahl and the CEO of ProjectTogether, Philipp von der Wippel, among others.
At the Future Festival, key ideas will be developed that combine innovation with a sense of responsibility. At the Helmut Schmidt Future Award ceremony on May 15, they will take shape on the stage of the Thalia Theater Hamburg when the participants present their ideas in front of a large audience. This year's winner is Meredith Whittaker, AI researcher and President of the Signal Foundation.
Now is the last chance to be there live. Young people from Germany, Switzerland and Austria have until April 7, 2024 to apply for the Helmut Schmidt Future Festival - with a 5,000-character short essay or a two-minute video. All information: www.leuphana.de/zukunftsfestival
